This is a rather dramatic photo showing a retinal detachment. The blurry area in the top of the photo is where the retina has bulged towards the viewer and is out of focus. The patient had noticed black spots in her vision over the past few days and quite a lot of "lights flashing inside her eye". The retina was subsequently reattached and she retains good vision to this day as the macula had not been detached. A very lucky lady.
