This is one of the finest examples that I have seen first hand of medulated nerve fibres. The nerve fibres have failed to loose their myelin sheath and can be clearly seen here with the blood vessels burrowing in and out of them. Medulated nerve fibres tend to really be only of academic interest as their presence does not affect the patients vision.
